People with passion, literary inspirations and war history

People with passion, literary inspirations and war history (Krosno-Strzyżów trail)

The trail runs north of Krosno, across the hills of the Czarnorzecko-Strzyżowski Landscape Park.

  1. Before visiting the Czarnorzecko-Strzyżowski Landscape Park it is worth driving several kilometres east to Haczów to see the largest wooden church in Europe, built in 14th c. in the Gothic style. A unique person also lives in this village, Jan Wyżykowski, a folk musician and master of the Polish hurdy-gurdy tradition, whose house and studio is a true museum. The elderly man is a brilliant expert on the history of the crank lyre. Haczów also has remains of beautiful manor buildings and a park.

  2. From Haczów the trail runs to the capital of Carpathian wines in Kombornia, and in the local manor guests can taste wines from different Carpathian countries. Kombornia Manor also has many other attractions to offer.

  3. Nearby Korczyna is worth visiting for at least one reason: Pijalnia Czekolady M. Pelczar Chocolatier by the market square. A variety of items made of chocolate can be purchased here, and guests can have excellent hot chocolate.

  4. From Korczyna the trail goes to the fantastic “Prządki” geological reserve, and then to nearby Kamieniec Castle, which inspired many legends and stories, as well as the play by Aleksander Fredro, The Revenge. Those who have more time can go to Węglówka to see the over 600-year-old oak Poganin and other attractions.

  5. From the castle the trail goes through Odrzykoń to Wojkówka, where the local brewery offers superb beers. Neighbouring Pietrusza Wola is the home and workplace of Łukasz Łuczaj, a great ethnobotanist and plant ecologist who investigates and experiments with the culinary uses of a variety of wild plants gathered in meadows and forests.

  6. Driving along the Wisłok Valley you come to the picturesque town of Frysztak, and from here to Stępina, where the Anlage Süd bunkers, Hitler's headquarters for the southern section of the eastern front are located. The most impressive structure is a massive 393 m-long railway bunker.

  7. In nearby Strzyżów there is another 438 m-long railway bunker in a tunnel under the hill. The town also has a charming market square with the collegiate Church of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Corpus Christi from the 15th c.
