Glass making and distilleries

Glass making and distilleries (Krosno-Sanok trail)

The trail runs through the Krosno Basin, in a depression called Doły Jasielsko-Sanockie. The Bukowskie Foothills and the Low Beskids are on its southern side, and the Dynów Foothills are on the northern side.

  1. The trip starts in Krosno – a town with great traditions in glassmaking, shown in the modern Glass Heritage Centre (Centrum Dziedzictwa Szkła). You should visit one of the most beautiful old towns in Podkarpacie, the Museum of Podkarpacie Region, the Crafts Museum, the Museum of the Battlefields of World War II, the Motoring Museum, and obviously taste nalevkas made by the Krzanowski family.

  2. Going west, you pass by Miejsce Piastowe, with the monastery of the Michaelite Fathers and the sanctuary of St. Michael the Archangel and Bl. Fr. Bronisław Markiewicz.

  3. Next on the trail is Iwonicz, with the wooden All Saints Church, and the manor house and park of the Załuski family. It is worth going to Iwonicz-Zdrój, one of the most beautiful and oldest spas in Poland. The wooden architecture of the spa creates a unique local atmosphere.

  4. From Iwonicz you go to Rymanów, an important town for Hasidic history. 200 matzevahs survived at the local Jewish cemetery, including ohalim of tsaddik Menachem Mendel and his wife, and tsaddik Tzvi Hirsch and his son tsaddik Joseph Friedman. This is a destination of annual pilgrimages. There is also one of the oldest synagogues in Poland, dating back to the late 16th – early 17th centuries.

  5. From there you should go to Rymanów-Zdrój, a town known mostly for its spa for children.

  6. When leaving Rymanów, you can take the road parallel to the main road and go to Odrzechowa. On the way you pass by the art glass factory, Huta Szkła Artystycznego Sabina, where pretty glass products can be purchased.

  7. Next you reach the dam on the Wisłok river, from which a scenic panorama of the lake can be admired. North of the dam starts a large gorge of the Wisłok river. You can go to nearby Mymoń or Besko, and descend to the river taking a green trail.

  8. After passing the dam continue to Odrzechowa. On the way there is the Experimental Farm of the Institute of Animal Production, where cattle, goats and Hucul horses are kept. Here you turn north to reach the centre of Odrzechowa. The tower of an old Orthodox church can be seen from a long distance. Next to it there is a unique monument of outlaws from Odrzechowa, and a cannon they used.

  9. After reaching the main road in Zarszyn, go to Długie, where a family-run distillery is located in a historic building that used to serve the same purpose in the past. There is also an oil pressing shop, and the opening of a microbrewery is planned for mid-2018.
